Bad Odor

I noticed yesterday that our nursery had a foul odor to it that only increased overnight. Our first thought was that one of the dogs had left the baby a present, but none was found. A second thought was that possibly a rodent had chosen to die in the nursery, but again a culprit was not found. So after dinner, James and I thoroughly explored the nursery, opening every drawer and peeking in every corner. James isolated the smell to one of the windows and on further inspection discovered blood on the outside window sill. We could not understand how an animal could have died in the window that we just installed weeks ago, but the smell was proving otherwise. James, braver than I, decided to look from the outside only to discover a bat devouring its bloody prey. Is that a bad sign? We always wanted bats to decrease the mosquito population but we could do without the carnage. Hopefully sealing the window and the Glade air freshener will take care of the odor in time.

  1. I know we are supposed to protect bats and they do control mosquitoes but we don't have to like them. Their nests make an awful mess in our eaves, and below, and are destroying the wood shingles and roofing. I'd like to discourage them without harming them. Any ideas?

  2. Blood--What the heck--I thought they only ate insects and those don't leave a lot of blood. What was it eating?
